Benazir Bhutto's death anniversary to be observed on Dec. 27

The second death anniversary of former Pakistani Prime Minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed will be observed on Dec. 27 across the country, the official news agency APP reported Monday.

Pakistan's Presidential Spokesman Farhatullah Babar said programs are being chalked out for the death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto and the final decision would be made shortly, keeping in view the prevailing law and order situation.

There will be a main mourning gathering at Benazir Bhutto's final resting place in Garhi Khuda Bux, near Larkana, a city in the northwest of Sindh Province.

The ruling Pakistan People's Party, other political parties, civil society and lawyers would attend the mourning sessions and pay rich tribute to the life and achievements of the slain leader.

Benazir Bhutto was assassinated on Dec. 27, 2007 following an electioneering rally at Liaqat Bagh park in Rawalpindi, a garrison city adjoining the federal capital Islamabad.

According to PPP's leadership, the government would ensure maximum security for the visitors at Garhi Khuda Buxas. The government has also decided to build a monument at Liaqat Bagh on the second death anniversary to remember Benazir Bhutto.

The sister of President Asif Ali Zardari, President Women Wing PPP, Former Zila Nazim District Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah), the working First Lady of Pakistan and MNA from Benazir Bhutto's Larkana seat Mrs. Faryal Talpur visited Nawabshah on May 6 and 7, 2010. She had come there to settle the dispute between Jatoi and Khoso tribes. It should be notified that eight people have been killed (5 from Khoso and 3 from Jatoi tribes) during last three to four days in this dispute at Qazi Ahmed District Benazirabad. Faryal Talpur held meetings with the leaders of Jatoi and Khoso tribes at Zardari House Nawabshah. She also met with affected families' people from both tribes and heard their matters. After going through the disputed matters, in a high level meeting with the district and regional officials she asked the police to carry out an operation in the katcha area of the district to arrest or kill the culprits. She did not allow the people to hold any jirgah in this matter.

    A group of citizens met with Faryal Talpur in Zardari House Nawabshah who complained for the eight to ten hours daily electric breakdown in the district. Faryal Talpur ordered the HESCO officials in a meeting to not shut down the power for so many hours in a day. It was observed by the citizens that there was no electric closure from the evening of May 6 to the morning of May 8 in Nawabshah. It was also observed that the HESCO officials in compliance the orders of Faryal Talpur hav reduced the time period of power closure. After flying back Faryal Talpur to Islamabad, the first electric closure was observed on May 8 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
