LARKANA: Members of the Soomra Community held a demonstration here on Friday against the land mafia and the police, demanding protection and justice.
A sit-in was staged at the Jinnah Bagh Chowk where 10 women, including Habiban, Afia, Fatima, Azizan, Perveen, Aisha, Manzooran and Aalia, and 16 children protested outside the town hall, blocking the road and suspending traffic for hours.
The protesters of Murad Wahan Mohalla, Larkana, said that their 2,700-square-feet property in Lahori Mohalla had been occupied by a land mafia representative Saeed Soomro. They said that Soomro had threatened them through different sources and even registered a false case against their family heads, putting them in jail.
The protesters alleged that the law minister was supporting the land mafia representative, forcing them to withdraw from the ownership of the plot and refusing to compensate for the property. They appealed to chief justice of Pakistan, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, provincial police officers, regional police officer, the DIGP and DPO Larkana to provide them justice and take legal action against the corrupt police officials and the land mafia representative.
